Nkana head coach Beston Chambeshi has hailed striker Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga’s impact in the club’s fight to survive relegation since joining the club from rivals Power Dynamos.
Ng’onga scored twice on Saturday in Kalampa’s 2-0 victory over Buildcon, a result that is vital to their relegation survival heading into the final round of league fixtures.
“The boys put up a good fight and I’m happy the goalkeeper did his best which good for the team and the two goal hero Ng’onga has added value in the team” Chambeshi said in a post-match interview.
“When you buy a player they have to add value in the team and I’m happy for the EXCO to have brought Ng’onga.”
The 28-year old made a blockbuster switch from Nkana’s crosstown rivals last April and has since gone on to score seven goals in Kalampa’s pursue of safety.
Meanwhile, despite Saturday’s victory, Nkana remain in 15th position with 41 points and still need to beat fellow relegation candidates Napsa Stars and hope either 14th or 13th placed Indeni and Young Green Eagles falter on the final matchday.
Chambeshi said the team remains hopeful and focussed on ensuring the record 13-time league winners survive the chop.
“We are picking points and I’m happy we are heading in the right direction, the players and the technical bench we are all looking to making sure we survive,
“We have to give a smile to our supporters, we knew that it’s the last game of the season at home and even for ourselves atleast we left a mark at home which is good for the team” he said.
Nkana face Napsa Stars in a must-win encounter in Lusaka next weekend and Chambeshi has played up the importance of picking up maximum points on the final day of the season.
“We are a point ahead of them and we will handle them with care, it won’t be an easy game but we will prepare ourselves very well” he said.
